Ned Miller / Joe South - From A Jack To A King / Children mp3 album
From a Jack to a King.
Henry Ned Miller (April 12, 1925 – March 18, 2016) was an American country music singer-songwriter. Active as a recording artist from 1956 to 1970, he is known primarily for his hit single "From a Jack to a King", a crossover hit in 1962 which reached Top 10 on the country music, adult contemporary, and Billboard Hot 100 charts, as well as reaching N. in the UK charts. He had several more chart singles in his career, although none matched the success of "From a Jack to a King"
From a Jack to a King With no regret I stacked the cards last night And lady luck played her hand just right To make me King of your heart For just a little while I thought that I might lose the game Then just in time I saw the twinkle in your eye. From a Jack to a King From loneliness to a wedding ring I played an Ace and I won a Queen You made me King of your heart.
Ned Miller recorded "From a Jack to a King" in 1957, but the resulting single was unsuccessful. Years later, label head Fabor Robison reissued the same recording and it became one of the biggest crossover hits of 1963. That song and one other from 1957 ("Lights in the Street") were added to ten new cuts to fill out Miller's sole Fabor LP, From a Jack to a King. The album has a surprising number of Western songs like "The Man Behind the Gun" and "Stagecoach," some of which were written by Miller
Born Henry Ned Miller in Rains, Utah, Miller was raised in Salt Lake City and joined the Marines, serving in World War II. He made his chart debut as a recording artist with the first of two Top Ten hits. The shuffling From a Jack to a King, logged four weeks at the Number Two spot on Billboard‘s country chart, and also hit Number Six on the pop survey in 1963. Others who recorded it included Bobby Darin and Elvis Presley. In 1989, it became the fifth consecutive Number One country hit for singer Ricky Van Shelton. Listen to Shelton’s version below.
