Drugdealer - The End Of Comedy mp3 album
The End of Comedy is the debut album by Drugdealer, a new project conceived and conducted by Los Angeles artist Michael Collins (formerly of Run DMT, Salvia Plath) who guides a group of Angelenos through a whimsical world informed by Jean Baudrillard, social media perception, Sergio Leone’s spaghetti western vistas and Collins’ endless travels
The title-The End of Comedy-can be read as a way of buttoning up the past, moving onward to sweetness and sincerity. But that is, in a sense, what he’s been doing all along. That lucidity becomes the defining characteristic of The End of Comedy. There’s a newfound focus that was missing even on Salvia Plath’s The Bardo Story and Silk Rhodes’ self-titled-two relatively hi-fi works by Collins’ standards. Previously, Collins has fogged his more produced recordings with dizzy arrangements, but now he’s able to turn even the lazily strummed acoustics and heavy-lidded slide work of Easy to Forget into something purposeful.
The End of Comedy turns out to be a lovely, brief record, like sunlight through leaves, all brightness and shadow intermingled. Like Tobias Jesso Jr, Collins sounds like he’s been paying close attention to Harry Nilsson and Emitt Rhodes: there’s a whole lot of post-Beatles comedown songwriting here. Even the perpetually creepy Ariel Pink can’t do any damage to Easy to Forget, a song as delicate and toothsome as spun sugar
The End of Comedy is Michael Collins' latest Psychedelic pop album featuring Weyes Blood, Ariel Pink, Sheer Agony and members of the Mac Demarco band. Each track compels the soul to feel sweetness and sincerity with Weyes Blood’s echoing voice and Collins' upbeat piano riffs. The End of Comedy Q&A.
On 2016's The End of Comedy, many of the songs are free of artifice, boiled down to voice and guitar or left nearly naked to let the emotional impact of the melodies and words cut more deeply. Working with a bunch of collaborators, Collins acts as ringleader as the album plays out like a lovely blend of Harry Nilsson-style witty pop and smoky Laurel Canyon crooning, with a little bit of big-city string arrangements and even a touch of ht jazz here and there. He chose the people to sing the songs very well.
The End of Comedy feels like it would be the perfect soundtrack to a show like Netflix’ Bojack Horseman. It’s absurdist deadpan at it’s best, in addition to being very dry. This type of humor has been rising in popularity in indie music after Courtney Barnett’s rise onto the scene last year . However, despite the stuffing of unnecessary transition tracks on this album, Drugdealer still makes a clean getaway with The End of Comedy.
