After what can be seen as one of Riot's very few missteps, Through the Storm doesn't do much to make the less enthusiast listeners of DiMeo's Riot less skeptic. However, it does show the band tiding the ship with more conviction. Make no mistake, this is not a return to past glories. This album goes further down the road that progressively made Riot's heavy/power metal closer to AOR-like shores, with the difference of finally sounding aware of the transition.
