From 1960 to 1961 it was awarded as Best Performance – Documentary or Spoken Word (other than comedy). From 1962 to 1963 it was awarded as Best Documentary or Spoken Word Recording (other than comedy). From 1964 to 1965 it was awarded as Best Documentary, Spoken Word or Drama Recording (other than comedy).

Baikida Carroll ( born January 15, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American jazz trumpeter and composer. Carroll played in the 1970s a role in the Black Artists Group in St. Louis and worked at this time with Muhal Richard Abrams, Oliver Lake, Julius Hemphill and other musicians of this community and took some plates under his own name. In the 1990s he worked with Sam Rivers, Pheeroan akLaff, Hemphill, in 2004, he starred in John Lindberg Quartet on the album Winter Birds with. Carroll wrote in addition to performing as a jazz trumpeter numerous film and theater music, and. The Spoken Word, HatHut, 1979. Orange Fish Tears, palm, 1975. BAG in Paris, BAG Records, 1973.

Carroll studied at Southern Illinois University and at the Armed Forces School of Music early in his career. Following this he became a member of the Black Artists Group in St. Louis, where he directed their free jazz ensemble. This group recorded in Europe in the 1970s. Carroll went to Europe with other group members in the mid-'70s and recorded in Paris in 1974.
