The double album "Cassiber - Live in Tokyo" is a true farewell documentary: disk one captures the band's only visit to Japan and their very last concert together, featuring guest saxophonist Masami Shinoda who died soon after. Disk two is a radical reworking/remixing of the same material by Otomo Yoshida & Ground Zero that make it sound like an entirely different album altogether. Strange but well worth the effort if you can handle the weirdest, most bizarre RIO/avant-garde stuff you've ever dared slip into a cd player

Disc one presents a concert by Cassiber recorded in Tokyo on October 23, 1992. It was the trio's first and only visit to the Land of the Rising Sun and turned out to be one of its last performances; after a couple more shows, two months later, the group put an end to its 10-year existence. Masami's contribution on the Bach-derived "O Cure Me" and "Our Colourful Culture" matches Arthur 23 Harth's original recordings on Man or Monkey. The Ground-Zero disc pushes the same sound material into a different direction, surprisingly ambient on "Across the Sky #.

With Christoph Anders on voice, guitar, and samplers, Chris Cutler on drums and electronic devices, and Heiner Goebbels on piano, they exemplified a new electronic free music. This collection is two CDs-one of which is Cassiber's final concert, recorded in 1992 in Tokyo with special guest Shinoda Masami on saxophone. That all the electronic cut-and-paste could be done live is in itself a revelation. They played with an abandon that seems fueled by knowing the end was near
