Velvet Underground - 1966 mp3 album

The Velvet Underground is the self-titled third studio album by American rock band the Velvet Underground. Released in March 1969, it was their first record with Doug Yule, who was a replacement for John Cale. Recorded in 1968 at TTG Studios in Hollywood, California, the album's sound-consisting largely of ballads and straightforward rock songs-marked a notable shift in style from the band's previous recordings.

Some Velvet Underground fanatics find this hour-long or so live performance to be of considerable historical importance. The fact is, though, that even most Velvets fans will find this a chore to sit through. No vocals here, just a constant pulsating instrumental drone on two half-hour tracks, with occasional hints of faint, wordless vocals (by Nico?).

The Velvet Underground hit another peak in their self-titled album. But can you imagine the Velvet Underground, in their first album, ever singing a non-satirical song about Jesus Christ, as they do in one haunting ballad on here? I certainly can't, and it seems to be a part of the pensive, self-examining mood that permeates this album. The one exception is "The Murder Mystery.

The Velvet Underground was an American rock band formed in 1964 in New York City by singer/guitarist Lou Reed, t John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison, and drummer Angus MacLise.
