Power Biggs was known not only for his mastery of the pipe organ, but also for his careful matching of a particular composition to an organ best suited to its performance. I have tried many organs since, and many organists, but for the music of Sebastian Bach, none can compare to E. Power Biggs on this Flentrop organ at Harvard. This instrument is absolutely the perfect organ for playing Bach, and Biggs is simply head and shoulders above the rest of the organists. Other organs and other organists can perform miracles with other composers. For instance, there is a reedy-sounding organ at McGill University in Montreal that plays the French baroque like no other in the world.

Biggs was trained in London at the Royal Academy of Music, where he studied with . Biggs emigrated to the United States in 1930. In 1932, he took up a post at Christ Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he lived for the rest of his life. Many of his CBS radio broadcasts and Columbia recordings were made in the museum.

One of his contemporaries and rivals was Virgil Fox, known for a more colorful style of playing. Edward George Power Biggs (1906 - 1977) was an American organist, born and trained in England. Biggs did much to bring the classical pipe organ back to prominence, and was in the forefront of the mid-20th-century resurgence of interest in the organ music of pre-Romantic composers

Many of his CBS radio broadcasts and Columbia recordings were made in the museum. Another remarkable instrument used by Biggs was the Challis pedal harpsichord; Biggs made recordings of the music of . Bach and Scott Joplin on this instrument. 24 Historic Organs In 8 Countries Covering 7 Centuries Of Music By 24 Composers.
