Black Sabbath's debut album is the birth of heavy metal as we now know it. Compatriots like Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple were already setting new standards for volume and heaviness in the realms of psychedelia, blues-rock, and prog rock. Yet of these metal pioneers, Sabbath are the only one whose sound today remains instantly recognizable as heavy metal, even after decades of evolution in the genre.
The discography of Black Sabbath, a British heavy metal band, includes 19 studio albums, six live albums, 12 compilation albums, seven video albums, one extended play and 30 singles. The band was formed in 1968 by John "Ozzy" Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (lead guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass guitar), and Bill Ward (drums). Throughout their history, the band experienced multiple lineup changes.
Considered by many to be the first heavy metal band, Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 by Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. The band's original name was the Polka Tulk Blues Band (later shortened to Polka Tulk) and later on changed to Earth (12) before becoming Black Sabbath inspired by an Italian horror movie of the same name. The original line-up lasted until 1979, after which Osbourne was fired and replaced by Ronnie James Dio. The line-up changes would continue, with no line-up remaining intact for consecutive studio releases.
LONDON, June 16 (Reuters) - The British rock band Black Sabbath’s album 13! has given them a first British Number One album in nearly 43 years, a record interval between chart-toppers, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday. Black Sabbath were last at the top of the UK chart with their second album, Paranoid. I’m in shock! Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne told the Official Charts Company. The success of this album has blown me off my feet. We’ve never had a record climb the charts so fast. The band saw off competition from Liam Gallagher’s band Beady Eye, in second place with.
Black Sabbath Album Covers have shown great variation in the cover concepts and designs that have been released over Black Sabbath's 45 year plus career. Simply entitled Black Sabbath, the album featured a cover that is possibly the creepiest rock album cover ever released. From that point on, Black Sabbath Album Covers have shown great variation in the cover concepts and designs that have been released over a forty five year plus period. The album covers from the band’s 1970’s period seem to be the most iconic, although that may be because they are the covers we remember the most.
Best Black Sabbath album to have ever been recorded! Best lineup of Black Sabbath, by far: Ozzy Osbourne - vocals Tony Iommi - guitar Geezer Butler - bass Bill Ward - drums. I feel like Tony Martin got in his prime on this one. His high notes are simply brilliant and this features Tony Iommi's best riffs in a long, long time.
