The Police were a British rock band formed in London in 1977. For most of their history the band consisted of Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar, primary songwriter), Andy Summers (guitar) and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion). The Police became globally popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging in the British new-wave scene, they played a style of rock influenced by punk, reggae, and jazz. The song peaked at No. 31 in Canada and No. 32 in the US, spurring a UK re-release of it in April. The band's first live performance of "Message in a Bottle" was on the BBC's television show Rock Goes to College filmed at Hatfield Polytechnic College in Hertfordshire. The instrumental title track "Reggatta de Blanc" won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In February 1980, the single "So Lonely" was re-issued in the UK.
It took until 1985 for a live Police album to be released, but when it came it proved to have been worth the wait. This double live CD captured two shows in the States, some four years apart. Catch the band in their early days at a show at the Boston Orpheum in 1979 and then compare and contrast to a Synchronicity-era performance at Atlanta's Omni Auditorium. Arguably, the first disc is the most interesting as it captures the band in their first flushes of success. The band had been Stateside regulars building up a loyal following as they gigged doggedly around the clubs.

Police in Canada - Statistics & Facts. Law enforcement in Canada is structured under three tiers: federal, provincial, and municipal. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (federal police) enforce federal laws nationwide as well as being the sole police force in the territories of Nunavut, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. In addition, all provinces aside from Ontario and Quebec contract out their provincial law enforcement to the RCMP. Likewise, smaller municipalities may contract out their policing to the provincial governments and the RCMP
