The Flight of the Earls.
Lyrics for Flight of the Earls by Paddy Reilly. I can hear the bells of Dublin in this lonely waiting room And the paper boys are singing. to get on board a trans-Atlantic plane We've got nothing left to stay for and no more left to say and there isn't any work for us to do So farewell you boys and girls another bloody flight of Earls Our best asset is nore our best export too It's not murder, fear, nor famine that makes us leave

The Flight of the Earls (Irish: Imeacht na nIarlaí) took place on 4 September 1607, when Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone and Rory O'Donnell, 1st Earl of Tyrconnell, and about ninety followers left Ulster in Ireland for mainland Europe. The event was first named as a "flight" in a book by the Reverend CP Meehan that was published in 1868
Main songwriter Liam Reilly launched a solo career which never achieved the same kind of success as Bagatelle, and arguably reached a particular sort of nadir with a Eurovision Song Contest appearance in 1990, when "Somewhere in Europe" finished in joint second place. He later returned to Bagatelle. IRL - 2010 An album of cover versions. The Best Of CD - free with The Irish Mail - 2010.
