Originally released in 1969, Humility in the Light of the Creator was saxophonist Maurice McIntyre's debut as a leader. An original inductee into Chicago's Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), McIntyre is a firebrand player who stood out on Roscoe Mitchell's legendary Sound, but over the last three decades, he has maintained a relatively low profile, recording only a handful of albums as a leader and not many more as a sideman. This album is finally released again, and it's a classic. Kalaparusha was one of the original members of the AACM in the 60's and appeared on such seminal Chicago school albums as Roscoe Mitchell's Sound. In the 70s McIntyre moved to New York where he became a frequent player in the budding loft scene downtown. Since late in the decade he has devoted himself mostly to his academic career and not recorded much.

Multi-reedist Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre is one of the founding members of Chicago's AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians). McIntyre has the ability to not only play "free jazz" but he also spent many years playing rhythm & blues with musicians including . Hutto and Little Milton. It was his blues roots mixed with avant-garde technique that shaped the sound of McIntyre's tenor playing. McIntyre was born in Clarkville, AR, but his family moved to Chicago when he was very young. McIntyre's second project Forces and Feelings featured his band the Light and was released in 1970. By that time many of the AACM musicians had moved out of the Windy City with hopes of conquering Europe and New York and being able to play more frequent gigs.
