Three years after releasing his post-Civil Wars solo debut, John Paul White has announced details of his next solo album, The Hurting Kind, which will be released April 12th on White’s Single Lock Records. Featuring vocal contributions from Lee Ann Womack, Erin Rae, and the Secret Sisters, White’s forthcoming album was co-produced alongside the Alabama Shakes’ Ben Tanner and recorded a variety of studios in White’s native Muscle Shoals region. The Hurting Kind also finds White co-writing with legendary Nashville songwriters like Bobby Braddock and Whisperin’ Bill Anderson

White, best known for his collaborations with Joy Williams in The Civil Wars, has teamed up with the 73-year-old Fritts, who started playing and writing songs in his teens. Fritts once worked with Arthur Alexander, whose early Muscle Shoals sessions were covered by both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. John Paul White is an American singer-songwriter, and was a member of the Grammy Award-winning duo The Civil Wars. He restarted his solo career with his 2016 release, "Beulah". White was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and grew up in Loretto, Tennessee, on a chicken farm. He attended Catholic school as a child. He is the oldest of four children. White, along with friends from high school, released his first album independently as the band Nuthin' Fancy.
John Paul White had already spent many years flying under the radar in Nashville as a solo artist and industry songwriter when he and Joy Williams formed Americana duo the Civil Wars and struck gold with their 2012 debut, Barton Hollow. After four Grammy Awards and the 2014 demise of Civil Wars' ro. .
