In particular, the Saint Louis Symphony trombones and tubas are simply amazing. They play particularly well in the passages leading up to the mighty first movement climax, and the ecstatic and overpowering third movement finale. The sound quality is better than what I was expecting from a download. Ideally, I'd love to see this as an SACD someday, but we'll see if that ever happens. Until then, this will more than suffice. All in all, the reasonable price makes this an almost obligatory purchase if you're already an Adams fan or simply curious about modern music. It captures a superb live concert, in good sound. If you're not an Adams fan yet, purchase this, and then consider coupling it with another Adams work.

The St. Louis Symphony under David Robertson wisely follows the violinist's lead in what may well become a definitive performance, enhanced by strong engineering work in the orchestra's Powell Hall home base.
