The Baroque (UK: /bəˈrɒk/, US: /bəˈroʊk/) is a highly ornate and often extravagant style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th until the mid-18th century. It followed the Renaissance style and preceded the Rococo (in the past often referred to as "late Baroque") and Neoclassical styles.

The Baroque is a highly ornate and elaborate style of architecture, art and design that flourished in Europe in the 17th and first half of the 18th century. Originating in Italy, its influence quickly spread across Europe and it became the first visual style to have a significant worldwide impact. Baroque art and design addressed the viewer's senses directly, appealing to the emotions as well as the intellect. It reflected the hierarchical and patriarchal society of the time, developing through and being used by those in power – the church, absolute rulers and the aristocracy – to persuade as well as impress, to be both rich and meaningful.

Baroque Pop emerged during the mid-'60s, a time when artists including the Left Banke, the Beach Boys, producer Phil Spector, and composer/arranger Burt Bacharach began infusing rock & roll with elements of classical music, achieving a majestic orchestral sound far removed from rock's wild, primitive origins. There are multiple bands called Baroque Bordello: 1) Baroque Bordello is a French post-punk band active between 1981 and 1988. Singer Catherine "Weena" Truscelli and guitarist Alain Frappier began Baroque Bordello in 1981 with drummer Gilles "Prad" Pradinas and bassist Gilles "Pewal" Bourges. Their main influences were British and American artists, ranging from Patti Smith to Joy Division and The Stranglers. Over the years many musicians have played with Catherine Truscelli and Alain Frappier in Baroque Bordello.
