Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (How beautifully the morning star shines), BWV 1, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed it in 1725 in Leipzig for the feast of the Annunciation and led the first performance on 25 March 1725, which that year fell on Palm Sunday. It is a chorale cantata, based on Philipp Nicolai's hymn "Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern" (1599).

Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach: Cantata Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4 - 3. Versus 2: "Den Tod niemand zwingen kunnt by Maria Jung & Chor der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik, Frankfurt am Main & Bach Festival Orchestra 1950 & Fritz Lehmann.

Recording 6 cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach he conducted the Berliner Motettenchor (Berlin Motet Choir), a 1949 by Günther Arndt founded mixed youth choir, with the Berlin Philharmonic and soloists including Helmut Krebs and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, who also appeared in his 1949 recording of the St Matthew Passion for Les Discophiles Français, as the Evangelist and Vox Christi (voice of. Christ). From 1953 he taught at the Munich Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Lehmann had begun to record Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Berliner Motettenchor and the RIAS Kammerchor, the Berlin Philharmonic and soloists Gunthild Weber, Sieglinde Wagner, Helmut Krebs and Heinz Rehfuss in 1955.

Bach led the first performance of the cantata on 25 March 1725 which was in that year both the Annunciation and Palm Sunday. Annunciation was the only occasion for festive music during Lent when Leipzig observed tempus clausum (silent time). Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern turned out to be the last chorale cantata Bach composed in his second cantata cycle. If Stübel was the librettist, his death in January 1725 explains that Bach lacked a competent collaborator. The composer returned to other texts for the remaining liturgical time of Easter, Pentecost and Trinity

Knut Weber was a scholar and principal cellist of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra before being engaged by the Berliner Philharmoniker. Chamber music is a major focus of his activities. He is a member of the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic and also appears regularly as a soloist and in various chamber ensembles in Europe, Asia, North and South America. His greatest extra-musical interest is his family
