Howard Duane Allman (November 20, 1946 – October 29, 1971) was an American guitarist, session musician, and founder and leader of the Allman Brothers Band. The Allman Brothers Band was formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1969, and achieved its greatest success in the early 1970s. Allman is best remembered for his brief but influential tenure in the band and in particular for his expressive slide guitar playing and inventive improvisational skills.
The session work with other players here isn't quite as good as the material on the first anthology, but An Anthology, Vol. 2 does feature a live cut by Delaney & Bonnie, plus a pair of what were then previously unissued Allman Brothers Band live tracks (among them "Midnight Rider" from the Fillmore East in June 1971).

In my opinion Duane Allman's best trait, beyond being an incredible slide guitarist, was his ability to be part of a song and not become THE song. He had the ability to blend in and become a key ingredient to a song in an incredible way. He was a very unselfish musician. Outstanding from beginning to end. The songs in this double disc CD showcase Duane Allman's guitar playing, as an "A" list recording session guitar player. Most of these were recorded at Fame Studio's in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Disc one contains 9 songs as follows: 1. . King Medley (including How Blue Can You Get) by Hourglass 2. Hey Jude by Wilson Pickett 3. The Road of Love - Clarernce Carter 4. Goin' Down Slow - SUNG BY DUANE HIMSELF, PLUS IT FEATURES AN EXTENDED MASTERPIECE OF A DUANE ALLMAN GUITAR SOLO.
